Richard T. Nuske Memorial Scholarship 

The Richard T. Nuske Memorial Scholarship is open to all new and continuing eligible students as well as a non-traditional (i.e., not a graduating high school student) student.  Two (2) $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to two (2) new and/or continuing non-traditional students. The award is to be used for continuing education ate an accredited school.

If you are considering the Richard T. Nuske Memorial Scholarship this should be a learning experience for you as well as an opportunity to win $1,500 for your education.  To be eligible you must interview a United States Vietnam Veteran, who was on active duty during the Vietnam War i.e., January 1, 1959 to May 7, 1975.  The Vietnam veteran may have served in any branch of service, anywhere in the world; serving in the country of Vietnam is not a requirement.

The Richard T. Nuske Memorial Scholarships are funded by Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. - Wisconsin State Council.  The goal of this scholarship program is for the applicant to gain a deeper understanding of the U.S. military veteran from the Vietnam Era.  As an applicant you can focus on (but are not limited to) the veteran's job, where they were stationed, how  the veteran feels about their service, and how that service has affected their lives today.

What you learn from the interview and how you express your ideas is most important to the judging committee.  Additionally, essays will be judged on originalityappearance, and grammar.

Specific Requirements for the Richard T. Nuske Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Interview a U.S. Military Vietnam Era Veteran (any branch of service) who served any where in the world between January 1, 1959 through May 7, 1975.
  • Write an essay based on the interview.
  • The essay must be:
    • Original
    • Typed
    • Double Spaced
    • Three (3) to five (5) pages in length.
  • The essay, application, school transcripts (if you are a continuing student) and proof of veteran's service must be mailed and post marked TBD*.

NOTE: Veteran's proof of service can be a copy of DD214 or verification from the County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO) or any other offical document.  Entries that do not meet these specific requirements will not be considered.

*The date is inserted following the Annual Meeting held annually in June.
